Brunswick
Alvin Arthur Thrun, 93, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away on July 31, 2014 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Al was born on November 10th, 1920 in West New York, NJ. He was the oldest of three boys born to Arthur and Sophie Thrun. His brothers Walt and Mick predeceased him. Al spent his childhood in Bergenfield, NJ and graduated from Dumont High School. As World War II started, he felt called to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Force. As pilot of a B-24 Liberator in the European Theatre of Operations, he flew over 59 combat missions, which profoundly affected his life. On one particular mission he landed his plane with one wheel inflated. After the war ended, Al attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated with a business degree. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Al had many careers over his lifetime. He sold life insurance, worked as an auditor for the State of Florida, worked for a nonprofit nursing home and was a small business owner. Al lived most of his life in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy; their daughter Sandi Goeldner (Rich) and grandchildren Alex and Tripp Goeldner and his beloved dog, Sassi.
A memorial service will be held at St. Simons Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 16th at 11:00am.
