Reidsville
Arthur J. “Butch” Mobley was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Born in Savannah on March 15, 1938, Butch was the eldest of seven offspring born to Arthur Dewey and Alice Mobley. His spirit of adventure and service to his country led to his enlistment as a U. S. Marine, first stationed in Quantico, VA and ultimately in Okinawa. While in Quantico he married the love of his life, Sadie Herald, affectionately called Sandy. After his service in the Marines, Butch followed the same spirit of adventure to California, Atlanta, GA, and Daufuskie Island, SC before retiring on the banks of the Ohoopee River in Reidsville in 1998, where Butch and Sandy joined the Reidsville Church of God. In his free time he loved to build furniture but being with his family was his main hobby. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Gerald Mobley.
Butch is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy Mobley of Reidsville; their three daughters, Cindy Jackson of Reidsville, Jacqueline Kowalski (Kris) of Virginia and Cathy Wendell of Meldrim, one son, Arthur J. Mobley Jr. (Annette) of Reidsville, twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Barbara Parsons of Savannah, Dennis Mobley (Teresita) Daufuskie Island, Lynn Eaton (Chuck) of Tybee Island, Steve Mobley (Terri) of Savannah and Terry Harley (Tommy) of Savannah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at 1:00pm on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Reidsville Church of God with the funeral services beginning at 2:00pm with the Reverend William Prince officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 3:00pm Tuesday with military honors at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
