Lumber City,
Mr. Artis Cooper passed away on March 23, 2021 at Navicent Health Baldwin Hospital in Milledgeville, GA. He was born February 15, 1949 to West and Adell Cooper. He attended Central High School in McRae, GA. At an early age, he joined Tremount Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, West Cooper and his brother, Curtis Cooper.
Artis developed Schizophrenia, a chronic mental health issue in his teenage years. Due to his mental health he was placed in a treatment program at Central State Mental Institution. After being there for many years he was placed in a group home.
Artis loved his watches and loved listening to music. Every year we would buy him a watch and a radio. He could not go without his watches or his radio. Those two things made him happy alone with asking for money. He also likes to buy and sale things with those in his group home.
Artis had a difficult life due to his illness. He is now in Jehovah’s hand awaiting a resurrection to a perfect life without the mental changes he had to deal with in this life.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving mother, Adell Noble of Ellenwood, GA; five siblings, Wesley Cooper Jr., Linda (Alfred) Mckerson both of Ellenwood, GA, Barnett (Pearl) Walker, Norris (Mary) Cooper, Janice Bennett all of Lumber City, GA; loving nephew, Vernon (Lynn) Bennett of Lumber City and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside funeral service will be conducted 1:00pm on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
