Ludowici,
Augusta Grace Godfrey, age 83, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. The Missouri native led an adventurous life as a military wife and lived all over the world. She finally settled down and lived out most of her life in Hinesville and Ludowici. For all her adult life she was a homemaker but had a heart for serving others. As such, she was heavily active in her community; most notably serving 47 years in the VFW Auxiliary Post 6602 where she served at all levels including Past President of the organization. Additionally, she was a member of the American Legion and a dedicated community servant. One of her greatest gifts of service was in her dedication to the Midway Nursing Home where she volunteered for over 50 years. In her free time, she was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed the friendships made there. One who gave her life in love and sacrifice to others; she will leave a void that no one can fill. Mrs. Grace was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alice Sparkman; husband, Elmer Godfrey, Jr.; daughters, Yolanda Sue Freund and Montiene Wallace McLard.
She is survived by her children, Diann Jenkins of Ludowici, Ricky (Debbie) Godfrey of Walthourville, and Dora Alliene (Norman) Morris of Ludowici; fourteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00am on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Chapel of the Glennville Funeral Home. The family will visit with the friends after the service.
Memorials may be given to VFW National Home For Children; 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827
