Glennville
Austin James Baker, age 91 passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Evans Memorial Hospital from a short illness. He was a native of North Carolina, living most of his life in New York and moving to Glennville 11 years ago. Mr. Austin was a loving father and grandfather who attended Mt. Zion Outreach Ministries Church and was a US Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War. In his spare time, he loved riding motorcycles, painting, drawing, carving things out of wood and making wood furniture. He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Baker, mother, Addie James and his sister, Sarah Durant.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Saundria (Bob) Baker-Borgerding of New York, Addie Baker Pristell of Glennville, Stephanie Baker of Daytona Beach, Florida; Yahsha Baker of Virginia and Tonya (Jeremy) Ramsey of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother, Jerome C. Hampton; 13 grandchildren, two special grandsons, John Pristell and Torvin Pristell; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
A visitation will begin at 1:00pm, Monday, November 2, 2015 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm from the Glennville Chapel of Low Country Cremation Services and Burial with Dr. Reverend, Enoch Garvin and Pastor Bobbie Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors rendered by the US Army.
