Barbara (Stephens) Cowart

Reidsville, GA

Barbara Stephens Cowart , age 74, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah surrounded by her family.  The Toombs county native was a graduate of Lyons High School and chose Reidsville as her home.  She retired after 43 years of service with the Tattnall Bank, was a member of the Garden Club and loyal member of Reidsville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Awana.  Mrs. Cowart had a strong interest in genealogy as she was known as the family historian and served as a member of the Historical Preservation Society.  In her spare time, she especially enjoyed cooking, canning and fishing.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Louis R. Cowart; son, Brandon Cowart and a sister Carole Stephens Boyd.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Louis Jr. and Michelle Cowart of Cobbtown and Derrick and Melissa Cowart of Richmond Hill; siblings, Bettye Carter of Jasper, Georgia; Billy Stephens of Greensboro, Georgia; Dan Stephens of Snellville, Georgia and Ricky Stephens of Gainesville, Georgia; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Reidsville Baptist Church where the body will lie in state beginning at 1:00pm.  Interment will follow at the Reidsville City Cemetery.
