Barbara (Lee) Roberts

Mrs. Barbara Roberts, age 90, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro.  She was born in Daisy and had lived in Glennville most of her life.  Barbara was always thrilled at the prospect of interacting with people.  Perhaps this is what led her to work in customer service with both Continental Phone Company and later retire from Georgia Power.   She would work many years as a secretary at Rimes Mortuary where her gentle manners and calming ways gave families comfort in their time of grief.  In her free time, she was an avid reader and loved to take part in book exchanges with friends around town.  She also was member of the Glennville Free Will Baptist Church and loved her church and the programs they had.  In fact, she would often take surplus Sunday school literature and other training supplies to churches that did not have as many opportunities to study the word of God.   Sharing and caring was ingrained in her soul and these traits were never more apparent than when she was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A child of God with a true servant’s heart, Barbara is celebrating her Heavenly reward!  She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Richard “Buddy” Roberts, granddaughter, Tammy Waters Dehardt ; great granddaughters, Lauren Brinson and Katie Cole Rushing and a sister, Susie Morris Holland.

She is survived by her children, Richard “Bruce” and Rita Roberts of Glennville, Susan Ross and Joey Waters of Glennville and Jamie and Gina Roberts of Hagan; grandchildren, Jennifer “Sara” (Kirk) Kolbie, Emily “Hannah” Brinson, Bethany Tingelhoff, Jonathan (Kendall) Roberts, Ritchie (Kristen) Waters, Andrea R. Sapp, Brandy (Sandy) Smith and Brooke Roberts; 21 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30pm on Saturday, November 14, 2020 with the funeral services to begin at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with Reverend Joseph Brock and Brother. James Beasley officiating.  Interment will follow the chapel service at the Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Howard, Roger Kicklighter, Dr. Paul Thompson, Denver Barrow, Daniel Bruner and Darrell Ballance.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, Statesboro, Georgia.
