Barry Dale Hill, born May 25, 1956, joined his wife, Dr. Kimberly Ann Hill on May 29, 2024. He is survived by his son Justin J. Hill, Ph.D. (Briana) of Cocoa, FL; and daughter, Ashley E. Hill of Warner Robins, GA. He is further survived by his granddaughters Bailey, Leah, and Sophia Hill – their “Papi”. His mother and step-mother Cecelia Thorton and Reama, his brothers Terry (Debbie), Gary (Diane), and his sister, Sherry, remain. He also joins his father, Colonel Delbert Hill in heaven.
Barry was a good and simple man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and veteran. He gave every part of himself to his family and lead a fulfilled life because of such graces. Every man sets a path for himself; to lead or follow. He was a leader. Wherever he went he carried a broad smile, steady hand, and commanding, confident voice that always wrapped those around him in a feeling of safety and warmth.
No matter the cost, Barry always did what was right. He had a deep connection with the natural world – introducing many to the wonders of plants, animals, and even the simple miracles found in such things as a breeze through the forest or the light after a storm. He was well-known for catching critters that he would proudly display on his shirt after a long walk in the woods. His sister recalls that growing up with Barry “was an adventure,” and, “he taught me by example to love the beauty of the great outdoors and the quiet calming sounds of nature”.
Rarely to speak when not needed, and even more rare to raise his voice, Barry taught us the importance of silence – to be able to listen to yourself and what’s around you. He was viewed as a pillar of our family by all of us. Countless others have supported themselves against him for strength. Indeed – he was a rock, one to find comfort, learn patience, and go forward. He lived as a rare trim tab in a world of unsteady men. He will be missed.
