Bertha Lee Shuman, age 96, passed away on Saturday April 13, 2024, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. A native and lifelong resident of the Hillview Community, Ms. Bertha was born on July 15, 1927, to Bertie and Minnie Lynn Collins. She was a graduate of Collins High School and had retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education working in several of the school's lunchroom. However, her true joy came from being an active member of Rogers Baptist Church, where she was not only dedicated but also held the title of the oldest member.
Outside of her professional and religious endeavors, Ms. Bertha found solace and enjoyment in simple pleasures such as gardening and passionately cheering on the Atlanta Braves. She will be fondly remembered for never missing her grandchildren or great grandchildren's ball games. Rain or shine, she could always be found on the sidelines enthusiastically supporting her loved ones.
Ms. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Laura Rogers Collins; her husband, Cleon Shuman; her daughter, Wanda Alexander; her siblings, Loree Anderson, Adell Sapp, Clifford Collins, and JH Collins.
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law Calvin and Wanda Faye Shuman and Glenn and Pam Shuman all of the Hillview Community. Her sister and brother-in-law Martha Jane and Ronnie Sikes of Metter; her grandchildren, Richard Alexander, Brian (Tammy) Shuman, Steven (Lacy) Shuman, Chase (Caroline) Shuman, and Laura Adams; her great grandchildren, Kaleb Shuman, Blake (Kendall) Shuman, Lincoln Shuman, Collins Shuman, Weston Adams, Lucas Adams, Ashton Shuman, Anna Shuman, Hadley Adams, and Brooklyn Shuman; numerous nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the funeral home with the funeral services to follow at 3:00pm from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Reverend Keith Beasley and Mr. Billy Collins officiating. Interment will be in Rogers Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
