Betty Scarlett (Maddox) English

January 25, 1944 — June 27, 2021

Macon GA

Betty Scarlett English, age 77, passed away on Sunday June 27, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Pine Point Hospice. Scarlett was born January 25, 1944, to Delos A. and Edna V. Maddox. At an early age she married the love of her life, James S. English Sr. and the pair were wed for over 53 years until his death in 2014. Her career would span over 30 years at Lewis and Holcomb Dental Center where she would ultimately retire. In her retirement, she found joy in shopping and traveling. One of her favorite pastimes, however, was her weekly UNO matches with friends. The group was dedicated to their card games and was even known to make up their own “rules!” Above all else though, Scarlett was a dedicated Christian woman who loved to serve the Lord. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Devoted to her family, dutiful in her career, and delightful in spirit, Scarlett will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Jamie English.

Left to cherish memories of a lifetime together is her daughter; Mardi Gillespie of Macon; daughter in law, Tina English of Forsyth; son, Brad (Kathy) English of Macon; five grandchildren, Bryan Gillespie of Atlanta, Ben (Michelle) Gillespie of Atlanta, Jacob (Steve Murray) Gillespie of Atlanta, Trey (Shelby) English of Warner Robins, and Chase English of Duluth; a brother, Jimmy (Judy) Maddox of Mesa AZ; a sister, Faye (Billy) Canady of Byron; other relatives and friends also survive.
