English Eddy Community
Betty Rae Jewell Pittman , 74, died peacefully in her sleep on June 25 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla. She was born June 02, 1938 in Brunswick and lived in Toombs County for 65 years before moving to Florida. She was a member of English Eddy Presbyterian Church. As an active community and school volunteer for many years, she served on the Parent Teacher Association for both Toombs Central School and Robert Toombs Christian Academy. She enjoyed politics and was a former member of the Toombs County Republican Party. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family. She also enjoyed gardening, decorating for the holidays, reading, bird watching and traveling. Her favorite retreat was spending time at the beach. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Raymond and Myrle Jewell.
She is survived by Hoyt S. Pittman Sr.; three children, Teresa Pittman Miller and Hoyt "Summy" Pittman Jr. of English Eddy Community and Maria Pittman of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Ruby Pittman of English Eddy Community and Peggy Duckworth of Reidsville; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at the English Eddy Presbyterian Church in southern Toombs County with the Reverend Joe Brice officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of visitation, a celebration of eternal life will be held at the home of George and Teresa Miller following the service. All friends and family are invited to attend.
