Billy R. Whitaker, age 68 passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was born in Reidsville on August 28, 1950 to John Wallace and Louise Lynn Whitaker.  He had lived in Tattnall County all of his life.  Billy served in the US Air Force where he was a helicopter pilot.  He also retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections after 34 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing and dove hunting. He was a member of the NRA, Eastside Fishing Club, and the Reidsville Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Geraldine Tapley Whitaker of Collins; children, Michelle (Joey) Crews of Hoboken, and Tanner Justin Whitaker of Collins; step daughter, Georgi Banks of Valdosta; sister, Gloria Glisson of Reidsville; grandchildren, Katrina, Mallory, and Deanna Norton; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, August 13, 2019 at the Reidsville Baptist Church with the Reverend Ray Sullivan officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
