Savannah
Carl Frederick Kramer 1917 – 2015
Carl Kramer, age 98 and a long-time resident of Orange Park, passed away on June 23 at Habersham House in Savannah Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace Kramer, and his daughter, Patricia Pritchard.
Carl was born in Milan, Ohio in 1917 and grew up in nearby Sandusky, where he developed a deep love of ice sailing on Lake Erie. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, starting a career as a navigator that stationed him in various locations including Hawaii and Japan. Upon retiring from the Navy in the mid-1960s, Carl, Grace and Patricia made their home in Orange Park. Carl then started a second career, working with crews to refit aircraft at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, until his second retirement at age 87 in 2004.
Carl enjoyed the outdoors and at the age of 87 was still mowing his own lawn. He believed that eating fish and walking were the secrets to longevity. Long walks on the beach interspersed with a cold beverage was his tonic. But his greatest love was his wife and daughter.
There will be no funeral service. Carl’s remains will be interred in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
The offering of a smile and supportive word to your fellow man would be an ongoing honor Carl would approve of. Grace and Patricia extend a heartfelt thank you to Carl’s former co-workers at NAS Jacksonville for visiting Carl at Life Care Center in Orange Park this past April, with flowers for Grace. Your thoughtfulness and continued companionship meant a great deal to a man who was proud to have worked with you all.
