Glennville,
Mr. Carl G. Merritt, Jr.(Cooter Brown) age 47, passed away Wednesday morning August 28, 2013 at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. The Poplar Bluff, Missouri native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a Desert Storm and a Desert Shield Veteran serving the US Army for eight years and for the past twenty years he has served the Department of Defense as a Heavy Equipment Master Technician. In addition to the love he had for his family, he loved tinkering with his Ford cars, his animals, watching the sunrise and sunset at the ocean. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl G. Merritt; son, Matthew Bartley.
He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life for the past twenty years, Colleen Merritt of Glennville; children, Branden Glenn (Amanda) Merritt of Hinesville, Melissa Ann(Daniel) Dasher of Glennville, and Petty Officer 2 nd Class, Anthony Dale (Lacey) Merritt of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Johnny(Brenda) Merritt, Carl Merritt, Steve Merritt, and Calvin Merritt all of Poplar Bluff; Grandchildren, Shelby Ann Dasher, Branden G. Merritt, Jr, and Adam Michael Dean Merritt; father-in-law, George Curtis Johnson, Sr. of Glennville; mother-in-law, Patricia Ann Johnson of Wellborn, FL; sister-in-law, Rosanna Lewis of Glennville; close friends, SFC (Ret.) Melvin “Jake” Jacobson of Augusta, Joey Foster of Hinesville, Allen DeLoach of Glennville and numerous other friends.
Visitation will begin at 6:00pm on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday September 1, 2013 from the Little Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Branden Merritt, Tony Merritt, Jake Jacobson, Joey Foster, Jimmy Lewis, and Daniel Dasher
