Carolyn Tharpe

Kibbee GA

Carolyn Tharpe, age 65, passed away on Saturday March 19, 2016 at Regency Hospital in Macon after an extended illness.  The Treutlen County native spent 20 years of her life in Atlanta before finally settleing down in Montgomery County.  She was longtime member of Rosemont Baptist Church in Lothair, where she wed her husband Earl Tharpe over 46 years ago.  Carolyn was a decorating enthusiast.  She found most of her treasure at yard sales all across the south.  Often times, she would come across sellers that had expensive items, such as carnival glass, that had no idea of the treasure they were selling.  She was very happy to bring these “finds” into her home and showcase them as the valuable décor they are.  Other hobbies included gardening.  Carolyn had a green-thumb, and her most prized plants were her roses.  Among all the good things in her life, the best was the time she spent with her grandchildren.  They brought light and joy into her life that she never knew possible.  She will be missed dearly by everyone.  She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, William Harlow Gillis and Tommy Gillis.

Left to mourn her memory are her husband of 46 years, Earl Tharpe of Kibbee; son, Michael Earl (Wendy) Tharpe of Kibbee; daughter, Tabatha (Woodrow) Fowler of Cedar Crossing; brother, Vernon (Jane) Gillis Jr. of Lothair; sisters, Shirley Crow of Macon, Wanda Gail (Larry) Willis of Lothair, Vernie (Billy) Wilcher of Kibbee; grandchildren, Trenton and Triston “Bubba” Tharpe of Kibbee and Caroline and Joanie Fowler of Cedar Crossing; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

A memorial service in her honor will be held on Friday March 25, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Rosemont Baptist Church in Lothair, with Rev. Daniel Gilliam officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the family plot thereafter.

Low County Cremation Services & Burial is serving the Tharpe family.
