Reidsville,
Charles Robert Collins, age 67, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at Appling Healthcare in Baxley. He was born in Reidsville on August 26, 1953 to E.R. “Bobby” Collins and Marie Phillips Collins and had lived in Tattnall County all of his life. The 1971 graduate of Georgia Military Academy was an avid reader. His studies led him to become an avid Civil War history buff in adulthood. Charles was a self-taught expert on the history and firearms. His professional career began at Georgia State Prison. Charles wanted more freedom than the prison afforded and thus he worked at Handy Andy for a short while before owning and operating Collins Carpet in Reidsville. Most recently and up until his death, Charles handled the carpet needs for Collins Mobile Home Sales. Although everyone that knew Charles would say that he was a workaholic, he did have a few favored pastimes. One of which was hitting the open road on his Harley Davidson. The freedom of the open road and wind on his face was his “therapy”. A kind soul, gentle spirit, and steadfast friend, Charles will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of Rome Primitive Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his father and a brother, Phillip Collins.
Charles is survived by his children, Carmen (Keith) McLeod and Zeke (Genie) Collins all of Reidsville; mama, Marie Phillips Collins of Midway; step mama, Carmen Collins of Reidsville; siblings Carmen (Sime) Dijan of New York, Eli Collins and Savana Collins both of Reidsville; grandchildren, Josh McLeod, Karson McLeod, and Emmalynn Collins all of Reidsville; nephews, Rashe (Amanda) Collins of Claxton and Kane (Summer) Collins of Reidsville; great nephew, Gabe Collins, and great niece, Kinnah Collins.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Rome Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Brett Bacon officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm at the Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Jones, Juan Cordova, Robert Daniel, and Lew Graham.
