Mr. Darrell Simmons, age 76 passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his residence. The Bacon County native had lived in Alma for most of his life. He was a US Navy veteran and retired from the construction industry. In his spare time, he loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Simmons and Mattie McClellan Simmons; siblings, Donald Simmons, Dewey Simmons, Denell Simmons and Donna Griffin.
He is survived by his children, Norma Browder of Alma, Troy Bruce Simmons of Jacksonville, Florida, Sandra Boatright of Alma, Scott Simmons of New Orleans, Louisiana, Rhonda Harris of Patterson, Georgia, LaDon Walker of Savannah; siblings, Dewane Simmons of Townsend, Georgia, Doris Griffin of Bainbridge, Georgia, Doreen Mills and Dianne Simmons both of Alma; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Visitation will begin at 9:00am Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the funeral home with graveside services to follow at 10:00am at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Douglas Animal Shelter, 620 Iron Shelter Rd. Douglas, GA. 31533.
