David Cutbirth

May 3, 1950 — April 6, 2012

Obituary
David Arthur Cutbirth was born May 3, 1950
in Sidney, Montana to Rev. Robert and Lois
(Beisell) Cutbirth. He passed away Friday,
April 6, 2012 at East Georgia Regional
Medical Center in Statesboro. David’s first
year was spent in Montana. Then his parents moved to Iowa to continue
serving the Lord there. He was a precocious child and loved visiting
parishioners with his father. He attended his elementary school
years in the Iowa Public School systems, choosing to attend Nebraska
Christian High School for his high school education. He graduated from
there in 1968. David attended St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, MN for a
year until he was drafted into the service and joined the Navy.
When he was stationed in San Diego, he was delighted to be selected to sing in the Naval Chorus. During his service, he received the status of Personnel Man, spending his last term in the Bremerton, Washington area. When discharged from the Navy, he chose to stay in Washington and attend Washington State University, graduating with his Majors in Political Science and Journalism. He loved the Republican Party and most of his working years were connected with various area. The most significant being on the staff of one of the candidates elected to US congress- and he was able to spend 2 years of service in Washington D.C.
While still in college, he met a lovely lady from Canada who was also a student, and in 1985 married the love of his life. They had about 10 years together until Denise was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and the next years her health declined rapidly and she died in 1999. By now, David’s health was also severely affected by diabetes, and, having no close family in Washington, he opted to return to Georgia where most of his siblings and parents were. He arrived in Reidsville in 2004 and resided with his parents. He helped his mother with the care of his father, whose health had become fragile.
After the death of his father, he assumed the position of Tattnall County Republican Chairman (continuing his love for politics). He joined the Reidsville United Methodist Church and joined the Choir. He also attended VFW (although he could not join because his service was not in a zone of conflict). As his own health deteriorated, he came under the care of the VA and when it became critical, he moved to Atlanta with his sister so as to be under the care of the VA there. He continued to spend as much time in Reidsville as his health allowed. He became known for his love of baking wonderful breads!
David was preceded in death by his wife and father. He leaves his mother, Lois Cutbirth and 6 siblings and their spouses: Christi Cutbirth of Boulder, Co; Mark (Donna and 4 children) of Atlanta; Joyce Briggs (Robert and 3 children) of Atlanta; Mary Spurgeon (Odyer and 3 children) of Reidsville; Nathan (Penny and 1 Child) of Houston TX; and Paula Glasscock (Glen and 4 children and 3 grandchildren) of Wimberley, TX
David enjoyed living in Reidsville, having made many good friends (and political enemies). David loved music, baking and cooking new recipes, computer graphics, marketing and educating, visiting with both the men and ladies and just in general felt really happy and at home when here. So sad his life had to become so short, but we are assured he is now at rest with his Lord and in good hands.
