David Ross McKnight, Coach David McKnight passed away March 31, 2015. After ending his football playing days at UGA in 1969, David became an officer in the U.S. Army. He returned to UGA to become a graduate assistant to Coach Vince Dooley. McKnight left UGA to become an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech and later at Appalachian State University. He was head football coach at Glynn Academy from 1979 to 1986. Thereafter, he was offensive coordinator for Valdosta State and East Tennessee State. His final college coaching position was with Southern Methodist University. Coach McKnight retired and moved to St. Simons in 2010.
He is survived by sons, John Curtis, David Ross and Perry and daughter, Mary.
In his final months, he was comforted by Hospice of the Golden Isles. The family requests donations be made in his memory to Hospice at 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brusnwick, GA 31525.
Services will be held at a later date.
Low Country Cremation Services and Burial is serving the McKnight family.
