David Welch Thompson

Mr. David Welch Thompson age 69 passed away Sunday May 26, 2013 at his residence.  The Toombs County native had lived in Montgomery County many years moving to Tattnall County in 1994.  The Vietnam Veteran served nine and half years in the US Navy.  He retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a Warden serving multiple prisons.  David loved to spend time fishing and hunting.  He was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir.  David will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.   He is preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Christine Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 41yrs, Rosemary Thompson of Collins; children, Amanda and Barry Futch of Estero, FL, Carol and John Jarriel of Collins, Jimmy and Amy Thompson of Reidsville; brothers, Paul Thompson of Uvalda, Mike Thompson of Mt. Vernon, and Dannie Thompson of Uvalda; Uncle, Hugh Mack Thompson of Blackshear; Aunt, Betty Gilbert of Macon; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will begin 6:00pm Tuesday from the Reidsville Chapel.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from the Reidsville Baptist Church with the Reverends Steve Miller and Charles Jonas officiating.  Interment will follow in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery near Uvalda with honors rendered by the Georgia Department of Corrections Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Brett Thompson, Jim Gillis, John Howard, Trevor Tatum, Paul Adams, and Lamar Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and the Forever Young Sunday School Class of the Reidsville Baptist Church, and members of the Georgia Department of Corrections.
