Dennis "Mike" Batchelor, Sr.

April 26, 1943 — January 30, 2024

Reidsville

Dennis "Mike" Batchelor, Sr., age 80 passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his residence. Born on April 26, 1943, in Jackson, GA, Mike grew up surrounded by love and support from his parents, Julius and Dorine McFall Batchelor. He had lived in Reidsville most of his life. A retired civil service member at Fort Stewart, Mike served for 20 years and left indelible mark on the community. He was a United States Air Force veteran who dedicated his life to serving his country. Outside of his professional commitments, Mike possessed a kind heart that he readily shared with others.  He enjoyed making people laugh and had a huge heart.   He was deeply passionate about helping those struggling with alcoholism and devoted much of his time as an avid AA Counselor. Mike had a unique talent for connecting with younger kids and discussing the perils of alcoholism in a way that resonated with them. To further inspire these children, he would often write heartfelt poems on the subject and pass them out hoping they would make a lasting impact. Mike genuinely believed that if these poems found their way to parents' hands, they might reconsider drinking altogether. His selfless acts left an everlasting impression on numerous young lives. In addition to his counseling work, Mike considered himself a guardian of sorts. Many nights would find him sitting at the Enmarket station conversing with patrons and "protecting" the clerks under his watchful eye. These interactions brought him great joy as he genuinely enjoyed engaging with people from all walks of life. Beyond all of this, Mike held dear three passions that brought him immense happiness – using his tiller starting in the morning till night in his garden, fishing and spending quality time with his beloved family. Whether casting a line into tranquil waters or creating beautiful memories with loved ones, these hobbies served as an escape from the daily grind and a testament to the joys of life.

He leaves behind his children, Tracy (Jim) Rickman of Ellabell and Michael (Amanda) Batchelor, Jr. of Loganville, GA; grandchildren, Daniel Michael McQuaid (Beatrice McQuaid-Magana) of Port Wentworth and Josiah Aden Batchelor of Loganville, GA.
