Reidsville,
Donald J. Burke, Sr. age 67 passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at East Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his family. The New York native had lived in Reidsville most of his life. He was a US Army Veteran and was a former Reidsville Chief of Police. He served many years as a Tattnall County Deputy Sheriff before going to work for the Department of Corrections where he retired. After his retirement he went back to work for the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff providing security for the Courthouse. He was a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #32 and the Tattnall County Shrine Club. In Donald’s spare time he liked to go fishing and camping. He is preceded in death by his parents, and several siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 47yrs, Barbara Burke; children, Todd (Angela) Thompson of Augusta, Donald James (Casey) Burke, Jr. of Reidsville, and Stacey (Shane) Cowart of Gumbranch; grandchildren, Tiffany, Clay, Jordan, Trey, Kristie, Matthew, Madison, Travis, Tracy, Gracie, and Tucker; great grandson, Haden; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin 6:00pm Wednesday from the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00am Thursday August 14, 2014 from the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend Wes Collins officiating.
