Mrs. Dorothy L. Bowen, age 72 of Collins passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her residence after an extended illness. The Weaverville, California native had lived in Collins for many years. Mrs. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the retired owner of Complete Income Tax service in Lyons, and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Collins where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also attended Crescent Baptist Church in Crescent, Ga. Mrs. Dorothy was very supportive of her children and grandchildren during football season, going to all of their ball games. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Helen Biggerstaff; brother, Jim Biggerstaff; sister, Carol Jean Fowler; and a daughter; Carol Jean McCarty.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by her husband of 51 years; Bobby Bowen of Collins, children; Jamie Walter Bowen of Reidsville, Jesse Allen Bowen of Denver, Co., Robert Lee Bowen of Mt. Vernon, Lisa Ann Douglas of Macon, Anita Bowen Myer of Collins and Katie Behrens of Alaska. One brother; Ricky Biggerstaff of Baxley, sisters; Helen Marie Nelson and Diana Dunn both of Bainbridge,  six grandchildren; Coleena McCarty of Australia, Cojeanna McCarty of Reidsville, Thomas Bowen of Reidsville, Matthew Bowen of California, Mark Bowen and Michael Bowen both of Colorado. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m Sunday, January 19, 2014 from the Reidsville Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m from the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel with Reverend Bill Brown, Reverend Bob Briley, and Jesse Bowen officiating. Interment will follow at Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
