Edd Rivers Futch, age 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at his residence. Born on April 18, 1937, in the close-knit community of Jones Creek in Long County, he was the son of Millard Fillmore "M.F." and Sarah Dunham Futch. Throughout his entire life, Edd was deeply rooted in Long County, where he made lasting impacts in his community.
Edd's professional career began at Dasher Feed Store, where he dedicated over 20 years of his life. His commitment to the store and its customers made him a much loved and appreciated person within the local agricultural community. It was during this time that Edd's passion for nurturing the land took root. Alongside his brother Tommy, Edd began a new venture, establishing Futch Tree Planting. Together, they worked daily to make their mark in the world of forestry, bringing new life to tens of thousands of acres across South Georgia.
It was Edd's love for farming, however, that truly defined him. His farm primarily focused on raising cattle and producing hay. Edd’s efforts provided him with a livelihood from the land he so dearly loved. His commitment to farming not only helped feed the community and provide for his family but also demonstrated his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. In between the demands of the farm, Edd had a passion for hunting, especially turkey hunting. He found solace in the great outdoors and embraced the God’s provisions hunting provided. As a former member of the Sandhill Hunting Club, Edd made lasting friendships and unforgettable memories with fellow hunters who shared his passion. As family, friends, and the community mourn his loss, they will forever hold onto the sweet memories of a life well-lived and the positive impact he made on those around him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jack Futch, Harry Futch, Tommy Futch, M.F. Futch, Francis Chambless, Eloise Dasher and Louise Sikes.
Left to cherish a legacy of love is his loving wife of 60 years, Sybil Futch of Long County; sons and daughter in law, Daryl Futch and David and Cherl Futch all of Long County; granddaughter, Taylor Futch; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 3, 2023, beginning at 10:00am with the funeral services following at 11:00am at the Jones Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Allan Pierce officiating.
