Obituary

Eugene "Poochie" Byrd,  Eugene Preston Byrd,

68, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Memorial Medical Health University Hospital. The Savannah, GA native had lived in St. Croix, USVI for the past 25 years. He was a US Navy Veteran and was trained by the Navy as an air traffic controller. After discharge he became a member of the US Air Traffic Controllers Association and was assigned to the Atlanta Traffic Control Center located in Hampton, GA. He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School and attended the University of Georgia.  He also was an avid sailor having sailed with his wife Eileen from St. Croix, VI to the Mediterranean Sea and back spending several months in the Mediterranean visiting many countries. Survivors include his wife Eileen Byrd of St. Croix, VI, son William also of St. Croix, VI, Sister Sara Bart (Michael) of Tybee Island, GA., Brother Elbert Byrd (Betty Jean) of Richmond Hill, GA., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Funeral service was held November 24, 2010 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
