Eugene Port, age 78, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home under the care of hospice. Eugene was born on February 23, 1943, to James and Fanny Lee Port in Awendaw SC. Most of his life was spent in the St. George area of South Carolina. During his working years, Eugene was a skilled auto mechanic and served countless customers during his years in the automotive field. In his free time, he loved the outdoors and hunting in particular. No matter how busy though, Eugene would always be available to spend with his loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Denise Potter; his parents, James, and Fanny Lee Port; two sisters, Pearl Blakley and Charlotte Durgan; and a brother, James Port, Jr.
Left to celebrate a life well lived is his two stepsons, Michael, and Nick Giesick; three brothers, Ben (Carol) Port of McClellanville SC, Harvey (Jean) Porte of Collins GA, and Johnny (Liz) Port Sr. of Schuler SC; five half-sisters, Sharon, Joyce, Mae, Kathy, and Gineva all of SC; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 29, 2021, beginning at 1:00 p.m. graveside at Wren’s Chapel Methodist Church, 1755 Hwy 45 McClellanville SC.
Graveside funeral services will be held following the visitation and will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Wren’s Chapel Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Interment will follow the funeral services.
