Eva Lou (McLoon) Shires

Eva L. Shires, age 73, passed away Friday, August 9, 2019 at her residence in Uvalda, GA, surrounded by her loving family. Eva was a Georgia native, born in Hazlehurst and most recently of Uvalda, GA. She loved to travel, though, and lived in Florida, Virginia, California, North Carolina, Louisiana and Missouri, as well. During her well-traveled life Eva also visited several other countries, including Canada, Mexico, and a trip to England, which she often said was her favorite trip.  Eva was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George C. Shires.

She is survived by her daughter Janet R. Herrera of Uvalda, GA, and her son Dennis W. Newman, of Denver, CO.  Eva was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. She is also survived by five loving siblings, brothers J.L., Pete, Joe and Kenny McLoon and sister Naomi Doner.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 3:00 pm at the Oaks at Bethany Education Center, 1305 North Street E., Vidalia, GA 30474. A reception for friends and family will follow the memorial at the same location.
