Claxton,

Florence (Flo) Burgner Lynch, age 87, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro.

She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 17, 1928.  She graduated from City High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee where she was a member of Sigma Iota Chi sorority.  She was also very active in the drama sorority and enjoyed performing, playing the lead I “George Washington Slept Here”, the Chattanooga Little Theater and in several church productions.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rhae and Everett Burgner, brothers, Everett and Robert (Bob) Burgner of Chattanooga, TN and her husband of 59yrs, Ed Lynch.

After marrying Edwin Sim (Ed) Lynch in 1949, they moved to Lake Charles, LA.  There she and Ed raised a family of three children and made many good friends several of whom she remained in contact with thru the years.  For many years she was involved with the Blue Birds, then the Camp Fire girls, and later was a Cub Scout leader.

Upon moving to the Atlanta area in 1966, she worked as an Optometric Assistant with Dr. Wasserman and Dr. Barr in Riverdale until retiring in 1989 when she and Ed built their retirement home in Williamson, GA.  In 2006 they moved to Collins, GA to be closed to daughter Sue where Flo quickly became a well received part of the community.  They joined Reidsville Methodist United Methodist Church and remained active in her Sunday School Class and Bible Study group as long as she was physically able.  She also participated in a Book Club and met on a regular basis with friends to play dominoes.

Since 2010, Flo had been living at North Springs Senior Living in Claxton, GA and has continued to participate in her activities thanks to the support of her many friends at the church

Flo was famous for her rum cakes, taking them to friends and often mailed them to service members who were overseas.  These were always received with pleasure.  She also was known for taking pound cakes to new neighbors.  Flo had a kind heart and made friends easily.  She was a loyal friend and supportive of those she cared about.

She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, joyful attitude and her “one lines” which made everyone laugh.  You could always expect the unexpected from Miss Flo.

Flo is survived by three children, Peggy Rhae Mozley (Don) of Brevard, NC, Sue Woodcock (Chuck) of Collins, GA and Scott Lynch (Monica) of Jacksonville, FL.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Tim (Kristin) Mozley, Blake (Brian) Thews, and Michael (Monica) Akins and step grands, Tabitha and Charlie Woodcock.  There are thirteen beautiful great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Betty Burgner Grant (A.G.) of Jacksonville, AK and a sister in law, Charlotte Burgner of Chattanooga, TN.
