Gene Adams Dawson

Glennville/ Collins,

Mr. Gene A. Dawson, age 85, passed away Wednesday September 5, 2018, at the Tattnall Healthcare Center.  He was born on August 3, 1933 at the Jelks Hospital in Reidsville to John C. and Catherin Cowart Dawson.  He was reared in Glennville and lived in Savannah for 48 years before moving back to Glennville in 2012.  He married Linda Turner in 2016 and then made his home in Collins.  He retired from Union Camp after 33 years of service.  He was also a commercial shrimper owning his own shrimp boat.  Mr. Gene loved to hunt, fish, and ride his four-wheeler on his property.  He attended Collins Baptist Church and is preceded death by his parents; sisters, Helen Ray Smith and Olive Dawson Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Turner Dawson of Collins; son, Johnny (Margie) Dawson of Brunswick; stepson, John (Dawn) Turner of Alma; stepdaughter, Misty (Rob Hutcheson) Turner of Reidsville; grandchildren, Jessica Dawson, Chad Dawson, Kristi Dawson and Johnny Dawson, Jr.; three great grandchildren; nephew, Howard Ray of Glennville.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 8, 2018 with the funeral services to follow at 3:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Collins with the Reverend David Lamm officiating.  Interment will be in the Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Cowart, Kenny Moore, Chris St. Dennis, Rob Hutcheson, Hal Ray, and Rodney Ray.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard Ray and Terry Woods.
