George Brabson Jones, Jr.

George Brabson Jones Jr., age 74, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at The Ogeechee Area Hospice House in Statesboro, Georgia after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s.  The Reidsville native was born August 2, 1940 to Col (Ret) George Brabson Jones Sr. and Mrs. Janet Brewton Jones.  George had a long and varied career.  He worked for Clausens Bread Company and Sears Catalog Store.  He owned and operated the Otasco store in Reidsville and later went on to work for Jim Walter Homes and Cannon Copy Systems in Savannah.  In 1982, he moved his family to Glennville when he became the District Manager for the U.S. South Region with Kawasaki Motors, Inc. USA where he was honored as Kawasaki District Manager of the year prior to retiring.  Mr. Jones served as a member of the Glennville Rotary Club, Vidalia Kiawanis Club and the Jaycees.  He was also an active member of the Glennville United Methodist Church where he served on the church board, the United Methodist Church Men’s club and the Friendship Sunday School class.  A dedicated scout leader, he served for over 17 years in various roles including Scout Assistant Master, Scout Master, District Commissioner for Scouts and the brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.  Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his parents, first cousin Nancy Rabun Henkel, lifelong best friend Billy McBride, his former wife, Marie Patterson Johnson and son-in-law, Karl Anderson.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Billie Jones of Valdosta, Bryant Jones of Statesboro and Glennville, a daughter Angela Jones of Valdosta; cousins,  John P. Rabun Jr. of Atlanta, Jack Brewton of Rancho Mirage, CA, Karol Brewton of Reidsville, Kathy Brewton Harris of Athens;  grandchildren, Brandon and Joey Wright, Jonathan Jones, Charlene Ann Healy and John Anthony Ross; his former wife and friend Lisa Godwin; caregivers, Sally, Dianne, Robin, Wendy, Delana, and Patti,  and the Reidsville High School Class of 1958.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Saturday, August 9, 2014 from the Reidsville Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the Brewton Cemetery in Hagan. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Evans County Sheriff’s office, Lex Dyess, Don Cobb, Aubrey Sikes, Brent Walker, Clyde Woolard and the members of Reidsville High School Class of 1958.
