George Sherrill

Saint Simons Island

George Sherrill of Saint Simons Island, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he was a graduate of E. Rivers School, Atlanta, The Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va. and The University of Virginia.  He was a veteran of the US Army and retired from The Trust Company of Georgia and Suntrust Bank , in Atlanta, Georgia.  George was a lifelong Episcopalian, an easy going, happy man who made friends easily.  He was an avid golfer since the age 10 and a hiker to many parts of North America, Canada, Europe and New Zealand. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Marie Lynah Sherrill and his brother, James Lynah Sherrill.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Claire Gardner Sherrill of Saint Simons Island, Georgia; two sons, Reverend George Sherrill (Reverend Karen) of Huntington, West Virginia, and Robert Gardner Sherrill (Dannie) of Bradenton, Florida; 5 Grandsons, George, Henry, Iain, R.G., and Charlie.

Disposition of Ashes will occur this summer on his favorite trail in Western North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Coastal Georgia, 4627 US Highway 17, Brunswick, Georgia 31525.
