George Calvin Shires

George C. Shires, age 69, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at his residence in Uvalda, GA, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.

George is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eva L. Shires, his daughter Janet R Herrera, both of Uvalda, GA, his sons George Shires, Donny Shires, and John Shires of Atlanta, GA, and his son Dennis Newman, of Denver, CO.  George was a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather.

George called many places home, including Florida, Virginia, Missouri, and Most recently Uvalda, GA. George was a devoted police officer for many years. He could build just about anything, and loved working with hands and tools. George was an avid golfer and marksman. George was also a dedicated jokester, often telling or planning his latest joke to get a good laugh, or just chuckling over his last one.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 3:00 pm at the Oaks at Bethany Education Center, 1305 North Street E., Vidalia, GA 30474. A reception for friends and family will follow the memorial at the same location.
