He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in April 1968. He actively served as an elder in several congregations: Blackduck, Minnesota; Bemidji, Minnesota; Medford, Oregon; Jesup, Georgia; and Brunswick; Georgia. He enjoyed teaching from the platform at the Kingdom Hall and was privileged to give baptism talks for two of his children. He served as a full-time minister shortly after his baptism for 3½ years as well as just recently during his retirement years. He was known for sharing his faith and hope for a better future with others whenever he had the chance.
He and Linda enjoyed traveling, and two trips he had fond memories of were traveling to Santiago, Chile in 2003 for an International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses and to a Special Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2015.
He is survived by Linda Burk his wife of 52 years, son Joel (Erin) Burk of Brunswick, Georgia, daughter Heather (Bobby) Barber of Eagle Point, Oregon, son Micah (Emily) Burk of Houston, Texas, daughter Ashley (Lonnie) Bommer of Fargo, North Dakota, and son Joshua Burk of Richmond, Virginia. Two grandsons: Connor Burk of Brunswick, Georgia and Jonny Barber of Eagle Point, Oregon. Brother Kenneth Burk of Jesup, Georgia. Sisters Wanda Gulbranson of Cass Lake, Minnesota and Sharon (Curtis) Hinkemeyer of Cass Lake, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm EDT at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4821 Altama Avenue, Brunswick, GA.
