Hinesville, GA
Gerald Dwayne Routh, age 80, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Memorial Health University Hospital in Savannah. The Missouri native spent his formative years in the school systems of Licking MO and would go on to graduate from Licking High School. Immediately following graduation, he would enlist in the United States Army where he would serve his country faithfully for 21 years, ultimately retiring at the rank of CW3. His dedication and devotion to his country did not end following his retirement. Gerald would go on to serve in a civil service roll at Ft. Stewart, Detroit, and Germany. After 41 years of work, one would think it would be time for him to slow down and adapt to retired life. Those assumptions would be wrong! He didn’t even let his blindness stop him from living his best life, he would occupy his time performing various tasks; even maintaining his own lawn. A man that never failed to show his love for his country and his family; he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gerald is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Alvis and Gladys Routh; mother, Thelma Belew; siblings, Donald Routh, Carole Noel, and Bob Routh; and a grandson, Noah Blake Jones.
Left to honor his life of service is his wife, Barbara Christine Routh of Hinesville; son, Donny (Gloria) Routh of Midway; two daughters, Michelle Routh of Midway and Angel (Jeff) Melton of Glennville; five grandchildren, Christopher Routh of Midway, Andrew (Kristen) Routh of TN, Christi (Brad) White of Moultrie, Tyler Melton of Metter, and Sarah Melton of Glennville; three great grandchildren, Marleigh Jean White of Moultrie, Braden Routh and Weston Routh both of TN; four brothers, Gary (Judy) Routh of MO, Brad (Sandy) Routh of MO, Phillip Routh of MO, and Henry (Caroline) Cook of AL; a sister, Neoma Hangsleben of MO; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.
