Reidsville, GA.
Gerald “Jerry” A. White, 80, of Reidsville, passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, May 27, 2019. Jerry was born in Corinth, Mississippi to Victor W. and Evelyn Allen White. After graduating high school, he served 4 years in the United States Army. He traveled the country working as an electrician for electric generating plants. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Louise Mashburn, in Butte, Montana. Their first born, Jimmy, was also born in Butte. They continued traveling the country, even living in Venezuela for a time. Jerry finally settled in Lyons, Georgia, where he continued his work with a local electric generating plant.
In 1978, Jerry began work at the Toombs County Sheriff Department as a sheriff deputy. He later became the first jail administrator for the Toombs Detention Center. Retiring from the Sheriff’s department in 2001, he and Louise settled in Reidsville, spending every day together and often camping on the Ohoopee River. He adored his grandchildren and loved to tell visitors of the things the little ones had said or did during their most recent visit or in school. He was a devoted husband, hardworking, reliable, courageous, protective, knowledgeable, loyal, loving and kind. He was a very proud man with great integrity, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He was admired, looked up to, and respected by many, especially, the ones closest to him. He will be missed dearly. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James White; and sisters, Virginia White Marlar and Eunice White Winders.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Louise White of Reidsville; children, Jimmy (Halie) White of Gray, Georgia and Jerrie Ann (Rodney) McCoy of Reidsville; grandchildren, Brian (Wendy) White and Kristy White (Charlie Iddins) of Reidsville; grandchildren, Caleb, Colt and Peyton Iddins, and Evan and Alayna “Laynie” White and also, Grayson Joseph White due to arrive in August; brother, Vic White of Wylie, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
