Geraldine D Miller

June 15, 1931 — December 28, 2017

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF THE FUNERAL DAY AND TIME

Geraldine D. Miller (Dasher) passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving children and granddaughter. She was born in Reidsville, Georgia on June 15, 1931, to Della (Scott) and Carl Dasher.  Growing up on a farm, Geraldine was no stranger to hard work and could often be seen on a tractor, tending to the chickens, working in the fields, and helping her mother and grandmother Kate in the kitchen.  After graduating from high school, Geraldine attended ABAC College where she earned her teaching certificate.  While teaching 5th grade in Hinesville, GA, she also volunteered at Camp Stewart.  It was there where she met David Y. Miller, a handsome Army Lieutenant.  They married in 1953 at Rome Primitive Baptist Church in Collins, GA. The newlyweds promptly moved north where David began a 32-year career at Cigna and Geraldine also became known as Gerry.  David's career required several moves to New York, Maryland, Connecticut, & California.  It didn't matter where the family resided, Geraldine always made it a loving and nurturing home.   After retiring in 1985, they chose to return to Geraldine's roots and build their dream home on the family property in Reidsville, GA. As a mother of four, Geraldine was kept busy but still found time to volunteer with various community organizations including the Girl Scouts of America, PTA, and AFS (an international student exchange program); it didn't matter where she lived, she was always the first to volunteer her time and services in order to help others.  Geraldine also enjoyed other activities including bowling (David had to build a separate room to hold all her trophies), gardening, golfing (hence the 3-hole golf course which replaced the old cow pasture), reading, cooking, and traveling across the country as well as to other parts of the world. In 1985, a new chapter began when Geraldine became a grandmother for the first time, six others would follow.  She found so much joy in her grandchildren and embraced yet another new name:  G-Ma. When she returned to Reidsville she reestablished her strong faith as a member of the Rome Primitive Baptist Church. Geraldine followed in her mother Della's footsteps and focused much of her time on serving the community through active roles in the VFW, Pink Ladies, and the Red Cross for which she received recognition through many accolades and awards.  A few of her favorite projects included the VFW military mail call which sends loving notes from home to active duty soldiers; the Love Light fund raising drive, volunteering her time at Dr. Drake's office in Reidsville, and providing much needed hugs and prayers to both patients and their families at the local hospital.  She also coordinated countless number of blood drives where she ensured that she baked enough treats for all the wonderful donors. She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband David, brother, Jesse D. Dasher and his wife Yoko, and two children, Catherine and David Jr.

She is survived by her four children, Douglas (Claire) Miller of Pittsburgh PA, Nancy Miller Tiedemann of Pleasanton CA, Patricia (Kevin) Dillon of Clifton Park NY,  and Susan (Bob) Roth of Peoria, AZ; her grandchildren, Kristina (Brady) Botkin, Drew Tiedemann, Aaron Rieber, Adam Miller, Charli Rose Miller, Patrick Halpin, and Ryan Halpin as well as many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins .

Geraldine touched the hearts of so many throughout her lifetime.  Her kindness, generosity, and beautiful smile will be deeply missed - she'll forever be our Southern belle.

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, January 4, 2017 from the Rome Primitive Baptist Church with Brother Jerry Strickland officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Patrick Halpin, Ryan Halpin, Drew Tiedemann, Adam Miller, Brady Botkin, and Bob Roth.  Honorary pallbearer will be Kevin Dillon.

Memorials may be given to Rome Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wanda Lynn, 118 Mimosa Drive, Reidsville, GA 30453 or VFW Post 7764, PO Box 1489, Reidsville, GA 30453.
