Gerald W. Hellams, “Jerry”, joined his Savior on Saturday, August 24, 2019 after an extended battle with COPD. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Daria Lynn Barrentine Hellams; only daughter, Alissa Hellams Rish (Paul) and two grandpuppies, Lucy and Lola; two sisters, Patricia Hellams Jones (Bobby), Carol Hellams; several nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Oliver and Eleanor Mae Byrd Hellams, a granddog Bailey and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was the quintessential gearhead, restoring several classic cars including a 1948 Chevy, 1957 Chevy Belair 4 Door Hardtop and Alissa’s beloved “Sally”-1966 Ford Mustang. He was so mechanically talented-from reworking a carburetor to painting pinstripes down a fin. Building a deck from an idea he had, to installing a pool pump without directions. His logical way of thinking served him well in his 38 years as manufacturing supervisor at Duramatic. Not just in evaluating safety upgrades but also in his personnel interactions. He was a patient man and prided himself on acting fairly always, but when his patience gave out, or his sense of justice was perceivably violated, he showed a determination and fierceness not to be wrestled with. He was a very private man, introverted and kept a very small circle of people. He often said he could talk to God as good in his shop as he could from a pew. Now he can talk to God, face to face. We look forward to that blessed reunion.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Glennville Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Danny Durrence, Stacy Sumner, Stevie Page, Daniel Smith, Ed Nelson, Robert DeJarnette.
