Gladys (Cuevas) Fernandez

Gladys C. Fernandez, age 74, died at her son’s home in Collins on February 10, 2016. Gladys was born in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico on June 3, 1941 to Rogelio Cuevas and Julia Velez.  She came to New York at a very early age where she was raised as a Catholic, along with her siblings.  She married Hector Carrillo in the late 1950’s and gave birth to Lillian.  In the early 1960’s, she married Francisco Fernandez and  they had two sons, Francisco, Jr., and David.  Gladys was a devoted mother to all her children.  Gladys loved to go boating with her husband and their two sons and lived happily together until his passing in 1984.  After her husband’s passing, Gladys moved to Melbourne, Florida to be near her loving sister.  Gladys always loved to spend holidays with her children and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Fernandez.

She is survived by her sons, Francisco (Nilda) Fernandez, Jr. , David (Donita) Fernandez; daughter, Lillian (Norman) Coates; sister, Lucy (Milton) Rodriquez; sister in law, Milagros Dion;  nieces and nephews, Debbie Rodriquez, Richard Rodriquez (deceased), Nancy Campos, Carmen Campos, Migdalia Campos (deceased), Jesus Campos, George (Catherine) Irizarry, Mario Irizarry, Daniel Bobet, Jorge Cuevas, Jr., Angel Luis (Sara) Gonzalez; grandchildren, Francisco Fernandez III, Jennifer Nicole Fernandez, step-granddaughter, Kimberly Turney; step-great granddaughter, Alaina St. Jean; cousins, Lillian (Tato) Justiniano, Luz Selenia.  A host of other loving relatives and many friends survive.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00pm on February 13, 2016, from the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
