Grace Curl Yawn, age 85, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at home under the care of Community Hospice. She was born on March 20, 1939, in Hortence, GA to Ralph and Alma Curl and had lived in Reidsville most of her life.
A proud graduate of Reidsville High School in 1957, Grace continued her education at Swainsboro Technical School, where she earned her LPN credentials in 1979. Her professional journey was marked by her work as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Hun Jun Kim Medical Clinic in Glennville, where she provided care and comfort to countless patients. Additionally, she served as a receptionist at Reidsville Elementary School, contributing to the nurturing environment of the school and supporting the vibrant community of Reidsville.
Grace's commitment to her community was further exemplified by her historic role as the first woman elected to the Reidsville City Council. This accomplishment stands as a testament to her trailblazing spirit and dedication to public service, paving the way for future generations of women in leadership. She was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Caswell S. Yawn, Earl D. Scott, and James J. Canady (father of her 3 children); her brother, James Curl; stepsons, Gregory Yawn and Clayton (Ellie) Yawn.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in laws, Michael and Kelly Canady of Hagan, Wayne and Tammy Canady of Baxley; daughter and son in law, Teresa and Darrion Stanfield of Reidsville; stepson, Scotty Scott (Tiffany) of Faulkville, GA, stepdaughter in law, Susan Yawn of Isle of White; siblings, Roy Jack Curl of Warner Robins, GA and Mary Curl of Reidsville; sister in law, Linda Curl of VA; grandchildren, Les Canady (Sarah), Trent Canady (Toni), Lucas Canady (Laurel), Torie Hunter (James), Tyler Stanfield (Rachel), Lindsey Stanfield Rentz (Chandler); great grandchildren, Olivia Canady, Blakely Canady, Tinsley Stanfield; Hollis Canady, Jax Hunter and William Canady; step grandchildren, Kandiss Taylor (Ryan) and Chase Sharpe; step great grandchildren, Eli Miles, Maelee Miles, and Fitz Taylor; several nieces and nephews
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Reidsville City Cemetery with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
Pallbearers will be Les Canady, Trent Canady, Lucas Canady, Tyler Stanfield, Chandler Rentz, James Hunter, and Ronald Curl.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Ms. Grace's caregivers, Jeraldine Richardson and Thelma Richardson.
