Gretchen Davis Baker age 80 went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunite with her husbands, Fred Sanford McBride and Turner A. Baker on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. She was also looking forward to seeing her mother, Ann R. Davis; her father, James M. Davis; sister, Mary Carol; brothers, Jimmy and Tony, and all the other family members and friends that were awaiting her arrival.
She was born on November 30, 1935 in Summerton, South Carolina, and graduated from Commercial High in Savannah (class of 1953). Gretchen was a hardworking and generous person who was a dedicated church member. She taught girls
Sunday
school for many years at Windsor Forest Baptist Church. She never met a stranger and was always ready to give hugs whether solicited or not.
She is survived by her loving sons, Fred S. McBride (Janna); grandchildren, Ashley and Fred III; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Preston; Rev. James W. Baker (Amy); grandchildren, Charlotte and Jay, Louis T. Baker (Holly); grandchildren, Jessica and Grant, and Joel A. Baker (Vickie). She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Swilley, Jackie Rexford, Dot Morin, and brother Charlie Davis.
