Gwendolyn Lora Nelms passed away peacefully at her residence under the care of Solace Hospice on August 8, 2023. She was born on December 24, 1942, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Willie and Grace Goss and resided in Wheeler County.
Gwendolyn found joy in creating a warm and loving home for her family. Her care and dedication as a homemaker were unmatched. Her smile would light up a room and her gentle presence brought peace to those around her. She loved her family deeply and her family never doubted her love, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When they would visit 'granny' she would get as many kisses as she could, hug them tightly, and laugh with excitement seeing the joy in their eyes. She was known to everyone as 'granny and gladly wore that title loving everyone as her own.
Before entering hospice care she would spend countless hours tending to her flowers. There was not a spot in her yard that she didn't feel like a flower needed to be planted, especially if it bloomed her favorite color purple.
In addition to her love of flowers, she had a deep love for God. She loved attending Beulah Baptist Church and seeing her church family. Most days she would sleep in a little later, but come Sunday morning, she had her alarm clock set for 5:30 am so she could get ready for church. She loved to hear God's word and walked and talked with him daily.
Gwendolyn is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Leroy Nelms, as well as her son, Randall Nelms, and brother, Arlan Goss.
Gwendolyn's legacy will be carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her son and daughter, Ronald Nelms and Rhonda Hughes of Wheeler County. Her presence will be deeply missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Serena Nelms, Dana (Andy) Giddens, Shelby Hughes, Rachel (Austin) Powell, Hannah Hughes, Addison Giddens, Kazleigh Giddens, Kayden Powell, and Kami Powell, as well as several nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Gwendolyn's family would like to extend a special thank you to Solace Hospice for the exceptional care their mom received during their time of need. They went above and beyond and always showed love and compassion. Thank you. We love you and appreciate you for loving our mother.
