Helen (Griffith) Jordan

Helen Griffith Jordan passed away on July 14, 2011 at Osprey Village Fernandina Beach, Fl. She was born on February 27, 1920 in Altoona, PA to Ruth Metzker Griffith and Jesse M. Griffith. She graduated from Lake Wales, FL High School and attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) and Tampa Business College.
Helen was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Fernandina Beach, FL but was very active in the Reidsville United Methodist Church in Reidsville, GA for 30 years. She served as President of United Methodist Women, member of Administrative Board, Lay Delegate to South Georgia Conference and Mission Coordinator of Global Concerns for the Statesboro District.
Helen developed an interest in gardening and became fully committed to garden club work. She began her journey as a member and officer of the Poinciana Garden Club in Fort Pierce, FL. After she and Wilbur made Reidsville their home in 1972, she continued her active work with the Reidsville Garden Club. In 2000 the clubhouse was named in her honor. By invitation she joined the State Board of Directors of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. in 1981 and later served as Flower Show Schools Chairman, FFS Symposium Chairman, Scholarship Chairman, Deep South Awards Chairman, Deep South Regional Board, National Garden Club Board and was President of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. from 1995-1997. She was a Nationally Accredited Flower show Judge with a Master’s Certificate and served as Vice-President and Program Chairman of the East Georgia Council of Accredited Flower show Judges. She was a charter member of the Georgia Association of Gardening Consultants.
In 1997 Helen was inducted into The Gracious Ladies of Georgia and was a 50 year plus member of P.E.O. in Fort Pierce and Bradenton.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Wilbur Jordan, parents Ruth and Jesse Griffith; brother, Don Griffith and a grandson, Don Jordan.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by her son, Larry Jordan, Lyons, GA, daughter Ann (Ron) Holmes, Fernandina Beach, FL, grandchildren Ryan (Amanda) Holmes and Rhett (Chris) Holmes, Valdosta, GA, Jim (Betty) Jordan, Vero Beach, FL, Mike (Tara) Jordan, Debbie Jordan, Allen (Deena) Oglesby, Lyons, GA and Angie Oglesby, Metter, GA. Brother, O.M. (Eileen) Griffith, Bradenton, FL, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday July 16, 2011 from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Marc Foster and Ben Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Holmes, Rhett Holmes, Jim Jordan, Mike Jordan, Allen Oglesby and Ken Griffith.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Reidsville United Methodist Church, PO Box 218, Reidsville, GA 30453 or the Reidsville Garden Club, 183 Sharpe Rd., Reidsville, GA 30453.
