Mrs. Inez Crews, age 87 passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Inez was born on November 13, 1929 in the Elza Community of Tattnall County to the late Herod and Katie Walker Spikes. She was a member of Elza Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She loved the Lord, her family and her church. She was a seamstress who had worked in a factory for numerous years and was known as a wonderful cook. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to the mountains and going fishing. Mrs. Inez was an avid sports fan that loved the Atlanta Braves and truly loved watching her children and grandchildren play. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy, Audy, Edwin (Tetsie), Sandford, and Jesse Spikes; son-in-law, Jerry E. Cowart; granddaughter, Hannah Rebekah Collins.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry Crews; children, Brenda C. McCumber, Janice C. Cowart, Kenneth (Debbie) Crews, Roger (Joy) Crews, Melanie C. Lewis, David (Phyllis) Crews, Pam C. (Glenn) Shuman, Mark (Marika) Crews, Tammy C. (Billy) Collins and Dean Crews; grandchildren, Kelly McCumber, Brandy Crews, Shelly M. Watts, Lori C. (Mark) Wright, Lance (Abbigail) Cowart, JK (Dusty) Crews, Diana (Ryan) Wiginton, Chase (Caroline) Shuman, Laura S. (Luke) Adams, Caleb Crews, Lacy C. (Austin) Martin, Dently (Cari) Crews, Whitney C. (Chad) Sapp, Ben Collins (Fiance’ Marisa), Dalton (Katelyn) Crews, Katie Collins; great-grandchildren, Logan (Lacie) McCumber, Haley Wright, Austin Lester, Parker Cox, Nicholas Wiginton, Gabe Cowart, Lane Watts, Nolan Wiginton, Devin Cowart, Pacey Watts, Lincoln Shuman, Ethan Stark, Hadley Adams, Collins Shuman, Weston Adams, Brooklyn Shuman, Camden Crews, KC Crews, Lucas Adams; siblings, Cora Lee S. Garrett, Charles (Mary Lou) Spikes, Jeanie S. (Leroy) Morgan, Joanie S. (Kester) Williford, Terry Spikes; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held 5:00pm, Friday, January 20, 2017 from Low Country Cremation and Burial (formerly Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home). Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm, Saturday, January 21, 2017 from Elza Baptist Church with the Reverend Kenny Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Spikes, Tony Garrett, Dennis Spikes, Greg Spikes, Timmy Morgan, Ricky Howard, and Chris Spikes; honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
