Mr. Jackey Durrence age 85, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tattnall County on December 11, 1935 to Jesse W. and Toy Omena Durrence and had lived in Glennville most of his life. The exception to this was when he was away serving active duty in the US Army. Upon being honorably discharged, he would go on to serve 19 years in the Georgia National Guard where he would retire as a Sergeant. Having a military background, going into the Civil Service at Ft. Stewart was a natural career choice. Before working for the Civil Service, Mr. Jackey ran the SOCK station and the FINA station both in Glennville. Never one to be idle, after retiring from Ft. Stewart, he would go on to work at Napa, Brent Walker Ford, Glennville Auto Parts, and O’Reily Auto Parts. These jobs allowed him to stay connected to the many friends he made in the community and meet new ones. Perhaps his best friend though, was his canine companion, “Buddy” whom he was never far from. In his free time he was an avid gardener and his prized crop came from his Orange tree. Jackey lived his Baptist faith each and every day, showing his family, friends, and everyone he came in contact with respect, love, and kindness. Truly a gentle soul and great man; he will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Naomi “Peaky” Durrence; sons, Randy and Joey Durrence; and siblings, Robert Durrence and Mathadeen Kicklighter.
He is survived his children, Shanda (Pete) Medlin of Reidsville, Mark Durrence of Glennville, and Mindy (Anthony) James of Reidsville; brother, Jesse Durrence of Glennvile; special friend, Tammi Marcum of Glennville; special caregiver, Adel Oliver of Collins; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
