James Stanford Barfield

June 9, 1926 — January 11, 2015

Macon

James Stanford Barfield (88) of Macon, GA passed peacefully on Sunday January 11, 2015.  He was born June 9, 1926, to Walter L. and Irene Smith Barfield, in Taylor Co, GA. He attended school at Robert E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, GA.  After living in Philadelphia, PA, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 3, 1944 and served on a seaplane tender in the Admiralty Islands during WWII.  After serving in the war, he began his career in Civil Service, retiring in 1989 from Robins Air Force Base after 40 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Natalie Barfield, and their 3 children, Carey L. Barfield of Columbus, GA, Dale R. Waters of Macon, GA, and Jana Simpson (Mark) of Gainesville, GA.  He is also survived by brother John R. Barfield (Jane) of Duluth, GA; grandsons: Eathan Barfield (Taylor) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Rhett, and Noah Barfield of Columbus, GA; niece, Danielle B. Jarrell (Branham) of Atlanta, GA, and grandson Cory Simpson (Ajay), of Birmingham, AL.

He is also survived by children of a former marriage; Bonnie Bunton (Ralph) Bluffton, SC, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Mr. Barfield was a member of Vineville UMC for 57 years where he served on the Administrative Board, Usher’s Committee, and Youth Coordinator.  Stan was a member of the Webb Fellowship Class, Grady Bunch, and Daybreak Choir.  He considered his primary ministry to be driving the church bus for all age groups, covering thousands of miles to retreats, mission trips, and other church outings for 25 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 15, 2015.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the music ministry of Vineville UMC, or to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth or to Pine Pointe Hospice Facility.

Low Country Cremation Services and Burial is serving the Barfield family.
