Baxley,
Mr. John V. Godwin, age 73, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Landmark Hospital in Savannah. The Florida native had lived in Baxley most of his life. He was a Jack of All Trades and a long haul truck driver. When not working he loved to go fishing and bake cakes. Mr. Godwin was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his parents, James V. and Sara Godwin, Sr.; sons, Wesley and Dale Godwin; sisters, Ann Beard, Shirley Kersey, and Maude.
He is survived by his wife of 17yrs, Colleen Carter Godwin of Baxley; daughter, Debra Wells of Odum; step children, Connie (Randall) Brooks of Dublin and Bennie (Leigh) Carter of Rincon; siblings, Birdie Roberts, Joey Godwin, Johnny Godwin, Mary Truluck, and Peggy Portor; grandchildren, Shawn Curtis, and Ashley Wells; step grandchildren, Ashley Carter and Madison Carter; great granddaughter, Ashlynn Stephens; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Friday from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am, Saturday, August 22, 2015 from the Friendship Baptist Church with the Reverend Phillip Osteen officiating. Interment will follow in the Carter Cemetery in Baxley.
Pallbearers will be Steve Kersey, Bill Kersey, Kenny Beard, David Godwin, John Boy Courson, and Shawn Curtis.
