Lyons,
James Derrell Thigpen, Sr., age 74, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center. The Montgomery County native had lived in Reidsville until moving to Lyons in 1981. He was a 1958 graduate of Reidsville High School. Derrell retired from the Georgia Army National Guard as a Major, Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant and the IBEW Local #508. He was a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #32, the Vidalia Lyons Moose Lodge #1281, and the Reidsville Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, H.B. and Thelma James Thigpen; brother, Donald Thigpen.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Winge Thigpen of Lyons; sons, Derrell (Holly) Thigpen, Jr. of Collins, Denny (Sheila) Thigpen of Lyons and Andy Thigpen of Reidsville; brother, Kenneth (Dee) Thigpen of Blairesville; sisters, Marjorie Jones of Statesboro, Mary Sue (Hugh) Scott of Reidsville, Lawatha Malmberg of Claxton, June (Sam) Bonnett of Portal; Bobbie Knop of Claxton and Wendelle Foster of Lavonia; grandchildren, Megan, Tucker, and BeLynn Thigpen; great granddaughter, Lilli Ann Thigpen; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30am on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 with the funeral services to follow at 11:00am from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory with the Reverends Reece Mincey and Jerry Lightsey officiating.
