Reidsville,
Mr. James “Jim” W. Padgett , age 80, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Meadows Park Health and Rehabilitation in Vidalia. The Fitzgerald native had lived in Tampa, FL for many years before moving to Reidsville in 1975. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Cuban Crisis with the US Air Force retiring as a Master Sergeant after twenty years of service. He also served twenty years with the Georgia Department of Corrections and with the Tattnall County Sheriffs Office as a Reserve Deputy. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his shop doing woodworking. Mr. Jim was a member of the Gideon’s and the Friendship Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bettye Newsome Padgett of Reidsville; son, James M. Padgett of Minot, ND; daughter, Kim (Ben) Sanders of Lyons; several grandchildren including, Jon Padgett of Minot, ND; step granddaughter, Christina Newsome of Brodhead, WI; sister-in-law, Jean (Frank) Scott of Nashville, TN.
The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00pm on Sunday from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Monday, May 15, 2017 from the Friendship Baptist Church with the Reverends Curt Tootle, Wes Collins, and Jeffery Barnard officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery with full military honors
Pallbearers will be Sheriff Kyle Sapp, former Sheriff Quinton Rush, Stephen Newsome, Milton Varnadore, Danny Harvey, and Lang Dunham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Law Enforcement Personnel.
