Reidsville
James J. “Jim” Rowan, age 56, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at his residence. The Chatham County native had lived in Savannah most of his life moving to Reidsville in 2000. He was a graduate of Calvary Baptist Day School in Savannah, Gem City College in Illinois and The Gemological Institute of America. Jim was a Master Horologist and a Master Jeweler, Operating his business A & R Jewelers for over 20 years in Savannah. Jim loved life, his family, and his church. His ultimate passion was a homeless ministry that he avidly participated in before sickness struck in 2000. He was a member of Open Door Worship Center in Metter and was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Rowan Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Lynn Rowan of Reidsville; his son, R.H. “Trey” (Kristen) Smiley of Bloomingdale; mother, Margo Pierce of Florida; Brothers, Robert E. Rowan Jr. of Florida and Joseph (April) Preuse of Indiana; Half-Sister, Rebecca R. (Brandon) Galloway of Pooler; Step-Sisters, Brenda Heisey of Ohio and Beth Koobs of California; Father and Mother-in-Law, Rev. Ernest V. and Mrs. Gloria Jenkins, Sr.; several Nieces and Nephews and many special friends and loved ones.
The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from the Open Door Worship Center with the funeral services to follow at 7:00pm with the Reverend Ray Woodcock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Old Savannah City Mission, 2414 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or donate food to a charity of your choosing.
