Mr. J.D. Haire , age 78, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia.  The Tattnall County native had lived in Claxton most of his life.  He was an US Army Veteran and retired from Union Camp after twenty two years of service. In his later years, he worked with his best friend, Mike Pinckard at Mike's Meats in Claxton;  where he enjoyed picking at all of the customers and giving the small kids a sucker. Mr. J.D. loved to go fishing and doing word search puzzles.  He was a member of Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie D. and Thelma Haire; granddaughter, Hannah Ruth Sneed; siblings, Colin, Burl, and Robert Haire.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynn Haire of Claxton; children, Denise (Joey McCullough) Haire of Swainsboro, David ( Jeannie Burkhalter) Shackelford of Claxton, and Jimmy (Diane) Shackelford of Flowery Branch, GA; siblings, Alma Brown of Lyons, and Margaret (Pete McGee) Pinckard of Alamo; grandchildren, Lindsey Shackelford, Melissa Nevil, Sean King, Jessica Kindberg, Timmy Shackelford and Maggie Burkhalter; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm Monday, February 13, 2017, from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial in Reidsville with a graveside funeral service to be conducted at 2:30pm from the Anderson Church Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Few officiating.

Pallbearers will be Keith Dixon, Andrew Chumley, Richard Lynn, Michael Stephens, Chris Durrence, and Ray Thornberry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church or Feed the Children Foundation.
